Paul Westlake

Paul Westlake is a New York–based fashion and portrait photographer known for his atmospheric use of light and emotionally resonant imagery. Born in England and raised in Australia, he began his career in Sydney in 1985, contributing to the visual language of ELLE and MARIE CLAIRE before establishing an international practice.

Since relocating to New York in 1996, Westlake has worked extensively with global editions of VogueHarper’s BazaarMarie Claire, Grazia, GQ, and ELLE, alongside leading advertising campaigns and portrait commissions. His photographs are recognized for their cinematic restraint and dreamlike atmosphere, combining a refined fashion sensibility with a deep understanding of light and composition.

Westlake is the lead photographer for two publications accompanying Costume Art, the exhibition presented by the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute opening in May 2026: the illustrated catalogue written by Andrew Bolton and published by Yale University Press, and a limited-edition deluxe publication released in conjunction with the exhibition.

He is also a founding collaborator of Pan & The Dream, the award-winning collectible art and style publication created with Nathalie Agussol.

His monograph Postcards from a Dream gathers images drawn from more than three decades of fashion work and personal archives.
