Paul Westlake
Paul Westlake is an internationally renowned photographer based in New York, with over three decades of experience creating imagery that is both emotionally resonant and visually refined. He began his career in Sydney in 1985, quickly gaining recognition for his storytelling eye and helping shape the visual language of ELLE and MARIE CLAIRE in Australia.
Known for his light-driven, cinematic style, Westlake blends dreamlike surrealism with a razor-sharp fashion instinct. By 1996, he had relocated to New York, establishing himself among the top international photographers. His work has appeared in global editions of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, GQ, and ELLE, alongside leading campaigns and intimate portrait projects.
Westlake is also a cofounder and integral contributor to Pan & The Dream, the award-winning art and style magazine celebrated for its evocative storytelling and collectible editions.
With a foundation in film photography, he brings a deep mastery of composition, light, and exposure—refined through decades at the forefront of fashion. His signature imagery bridges the timeless texture of analog with the versatility of digital, resulting in work that feels both contemporary and enduring.
His portraits unfold like quiet narratives—moments suspended between reality and dream. In recent years, Westlake has focused increasingly on personal projects exploring presence, memory, femininity, and the surreal.
His recently released monograph, Postcards from a Dream, gathers hand-picked images from more than 30 years of fashion work and personal archives. It is a meditation on stillness, beauty, and the way women are seen—with softness, strength, and emotional depth.
